You’ve probably noticed the small plastic button attached to your seat belt strap—but most people have no idea what it’s for. Despite its size, this little detail plays an important role in comfort, convenience, and safety.
🚗 What is the seat belt button?
That small plastic piece is called a seat belt stop button (or retainer button). It’s usually heat-pressed or snapped onto the belt webbing.
🔍 What does it actually do?
Its main job is to prevent the metal latch plate from sliding all the way down to the floor when the seat belt isn’t in use.
Without it:
